Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment across all construction sites. This role promotes a strong safety culture, ensures adherence to OSHA and other regulatory standards, and proactively identifies and mitigates workplace hazards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and dedicated to maintaining the highest safety standards within a small construction firm environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and training programs in compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular job-site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead safety meetings and training sessions, including toolbox talks, equipment safety, and emergency response procedures.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures.
- Maintain accurate safety records, including training logs, inspections, and incident reports.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to integrate safety practices into daily operations.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety tools.
- Stay informed on industry regulations, emerging safety trends, and best practices.
- Promote a positive, accountable safety culture among all employees.
- Coordinate with external auditors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety, or a related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in construction safety or a related role.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and hazard identification.
- Certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour Construction and First Aid/CPR preferred.
- Strong communication and training skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, and navigate construction sites for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (e.g., safety equipment or materials).
